Background: Kagiso Media, owners of Jacaranda FM and East Coast Radio have put together the KM Hunger Relief Fund to assist communities in need during the drawn out Covid-19 lockdown in South Africa. The most basic need remains food. Over the next two weeks, Jacaranda FM will give a platform to four organisations per day, who actively work within afflicted communities to feed the thousands of families who currently cannot earn a living. We want to know who these community Angels are and how our listener community can assist them. Jacaranda FM will also equally distribute R500 000,00 from the Kagiso Media Hunger Relief Fund to these organisations in the form of AngelRands.

We will publish the details of each organisation on www.jacarandafm.com so you can contact them and donate directly to assist the essential work they do.

Rona is a Non-Profit Organization registered with the Department of Social Development. Rona was founded on the basic principles of community development and social upliftment of the youth, women and the elderly.

Rona has from 2011 assisted over 80 young persons from Tshwane and other provinces access tertiary education, yielding 30 graduates to date. Our other focus was on skilling unemployment women in the production of crafts and jewellery to feed their families in Tshwane and Parys.

Currently, the Covid-19 pandemic has forced everyone to reset their focus to helping the vulnerable. This battle has exposed serious fault lines in our socio-economic fabric. Rona took up this challenge to assist the elderly and the ill in the Mamelodi Old Age Home, after being made aware of the efforts of an 82-year-old grandmother, who donated groceries and vegetables and celebrated her 82nd birthday at the facility. It was a clear fact that the facility has not able to cope with even the primary function of feeding our elderly. We decided to be part of the solution of mobilising support to assist Mamelodi Old Age Home to feed the elderly and the ill.

We hereby request your organization to help us secure food, vegetables and groceries to support our elderly and ill. The people who made us who we are. The facilities need assistance with food, toiletries and volunteer services.
