However, the president said there will be strict regulations to ensure that people aren’t put at risk of contracting the coronavirus. One of the regulations is that operators will need to submit their COVID-19 plans to the government for approval before they can reopen.

Let’s look at what precautions you need to take before heading to the gym to ensure you don't put yourself and others at risk of contracting the coronavirus.

-  Book your slot

Fitness centres and gyms are limited to 50 persons or less. This means that if you arrive at the gym and there are already 50 people inside, you might be turned back or have to wait until another one comes out.

To prevent this, the best thing is to book your slot. Gyms such as Virgin Active allow their users to book a slot using their app.

- Wear your mask at all times

One of the regulations put in place by the government is that people must always wear their mask in public spaces. This includes when you are at the gym. So, don’t forget to pack your mask.

-  Sanitise the equipment

Although the gym will sanitise and disinfecting the space and equipment, it is also best that you sanitise your hands and the equipment before you touch it.

-  Carry your own water bottle

It is advisable that you carry your own water bottle to avoid going to get water from the tap, unless if the tap has a sensor and you don't have to touch it.

- Avoid using the public toilet

If possible, avoid using the toilet. If you have to, then make sure you sanitise the toilet seat and your hands after flushing and touching the door handle.

- Sanitise your hands when you leave the gym

Before entering your car or touching any other thing, it is best to sanitise your hands.

- Wash your gym clothes

When you get home, take a shower and take off your gym outfit and wash it. This way, you don't put your family at risk of contracting the virus.
