Drug abuse is a serious problem all over the world.

Each year, hundreds of thousands of people die from drug abuse and many famous people have also died from drug overdoses, while others struggle with addiction.

According to Our World In Data, more than half of those who die from alcohol or drug overdoses are younger than 50.

On 26 June, the world observes International Day Against Drug Abuse, aimed at combating the drug problem.

Signs of addiction, according to SADAG:

• Loss of interest in day-to-day activities

• Absence from school/dropping out

• Change crowd (to hang out with those who are users)

• Become moody, negative, cranky, or worried all the time

• Have trouble concentrating

• Lack of energy resulting in sleeping much more

• Aggressive behaviour that will lead to getting into fights, being argumentative

• Committing crime to feed the habit

• Red or puffy eyes

• Unexplainable weight gain or loss
