Many children in South Africa carry a lunch box to school.
Although there are schools that offer free lunch, many schools don't.
It is the parents' responsibility to ensure their children eat right.
Although sometimes it is easier to pack what children love, it is also important that they are fed what is healthy.
Dietitian, Dr Monique Piderit, shares advice on how to pack the best nutritional lunch for your young one.

She says lunch should contain the following:
- A carbohydrate food (e.g. fresh fruit like peaches, nectarines and plums, high fibre bread or crackers, dried fruit, popcorn)
- A protein food (e.g. yoghurt, cheese, chocolate milk, boiled egg, lean cold meats, leftover sliced chicken or meat, legumes like beans, chickpeas and lentils)
- A healthy fat (e.g. nuts, nut butter, pitted olives, diced avo).
Don’t forget the water bottle and a pop of colour from finger veggies like baby carrots.
