A company in Japan have invented a spoon that makes food taste saltier.
According to a report by Sky News, the Electric Salt Spoon operates by battery.
It was developed by a company called Kirin Holdings.
The manufacturer's website reports that the spoon was developed with the aim of reducing the high intake of salt by people, especially in Japan.
Kirin reports that the spoon 'comes equipped with technology that enhances the salty taste perceived when eating low-sodium foods by approximately 1.5 times.'
The spoon was developed by the company in collaboration with Meiji University.

It also 'works by passing a weak electric current through the tip of the device to concentrate sodium ion molecules on the tongue'.
The spoon went on sale in May, with only 200 units going on sale.
The World Health Organisation recommends that a person should consume 5g of salt per day.
Other methods of reducing salt intake include:
- Slowly reduce the amount of salt you use while cooking – your taste buds will adapt.
- Use herbs, spices, lemon, garlic, and fresh chilli when cooking to add flavour in place of salt.
- Drain and rinse canned vegetables and beans – they are sometimes stored in salted water.
- Check food labels for salt levels and choose the lower salt option. No nutrition labels? Write to the manufacturer to ask why!
- Take salt shakers and salty sauces off the table so younger family members don’t develop the habit of adding salt to their food.
