BLF lays charges against Enterprise Foods, Rainbow Chicken
Updated | By Thabo Tshabalala
Black First Land First (BLF) says it's not enough for food contaminated with listeriosis to be removed from shelves, but Enterprise Foods and Rainbow Chicken must also be held accountable.
BLF will lay a charge of murder against the two companies on Monday.
This follows the outbreak of the listeriosis disease that has claimed the lives of 180 people in the country.
The contamination has been traced back to an Enterprise manufacturing plant in Polokwane. A Rainbow Chicken facility in Sasolburg in the Free State has also been linked to the outbreak.
BLF President Andile Mngixitama says Enterprise Foods had known about outbreak 18 days ago, but failed to remove the products.
Mngixitama says they have already visited some retailers, including Shoprite and Checkers, to ensure all the products have been removed from the shelves.
