AKA wins Best Male Southern Africa award at AFRIMMAs

Rapper AKA has received another international award!

The Megacy family is celebrating AKA's recent win at the African Muzik Magazine Award. 

The late star, who was was shot and killed in February, walked away with the Best Male Southern Africa award at AFRIMMAs. 

"Thank you to the Megacy for voting and bringing another award home. Kiernan's legacy continues to live because of all of you," his parents, Tony and Lynn Forbes, told News24

"The AFRIMMAs were special to him, and winning this award for a third time is something we, as a family, will cherish," they added.

The awards took place on Sunday in Dallas, Texas. 

AKA was nominated alongside Sjava, DJ Maphorisa, Musa Keys, and Costa Titch.

"AFRIMMA was Kiernan's first award on American soil. To receive this award in 2023 is testament to his great artistry and the love from South Africans and Africans as a whole. His impact continues now and to infinity," his label, VTH Season, said. 

The late rapper's girlfriend also won the AFRIMMA Award for Best Southern Female Artist.

Nadia took to Instagram to share her excitement. 

"I’m AN AFRIMMA AWARD WINNER!!!!, Thank you for my best Southern female artist AWARD.” she wrote on IG. 

“Winning Women in a Winning Dress! Thank you @gertjohancoetzee for making my second look for the @afrimma,” she said.
