Johnny Clegg's autobiography nominated for an award

Congratulations are in order for the late Johnny Clegg, whose autobiography has just been nominated for an award.

Internationally recognised musician, Johnny Clegg, has inspired so many people around the world with the role he played in uniting the different races in South Africa. 

His book, 'Scatterling of Africa: My Early Years', has just been nominated for the most prestigious literary award in South Africa. 

The announcement was made by his son, Jesse Clegg, on Twitter. 

"Very proud to announce that my father’s autobiography, #ScatterlingOfAfrica, has been shortlisted for the most prestigious literary award in South Africa," he wrote.

The book was released on 1 October 2021, two years after Clegg's passing. It was published by Pan Macmillan South Africa. 

It details the early years of his life. 

The singer was known for his love of the Zulu language and music. In the book, he details his first encounter with the Zulu culture.

He also wrote about his troubled childhood and his pursuit to break into the music industry.  

His family expressed their joy over the nomination. 

"We feel very proud as a family that this book that he worked so hard on is being celebrated in this way. Thank you to @PanMacmillanSA  & Alison Lowrie for helping us bring this book to fruition," Jesse wrote on Twitter. 

He went on to thank those who have supported them. 

"And thanks to everyone who read and connected with it on such a deep level. Halala!," Jesse wrote on Twitter.
