New Zealand singer Lorde says her new album, 'Virgin', broke her apart and forged a new creature out of her.

'Virgin' made its debut on Friday, June 27.

"Virgin is out today. I feel simply crazy. For a long time, an album is just a handful of Word docs and Logic sessions, a couple whiteboards, a raw image from a medical scanner in an undisclosed country," she said.

The 'Fallen Fruit' singer says she underwent several personal changes while working on the album.

"I tried to love Virgin right the way through these stages at the same time as I was learning to love myself in my many stages of change, growth, brokenness and wholeness.

The 11-track album includes the singles 'What Was That', 'Man of the Year' and 'Hammer.

Lorde produced the album alongside Jim-E Stack, Dan Nigro and Buddy Ross. She also co-wrote all of the songs.

"I’m still in shock and awe that so many of my heroes worked on Virgin — it has changed me collaborating with people this good, they’ll get a separate post... but today very very special thanks go to Jimmy Stack for a collaboration so all in, fun, supportive, moving and inspiring that it really can’t be put into words," she said.

The 28-year-old also thanked her fans for all their support.

"This album broke me apart and forged a new creature out of me. I am so proud to stand before you today as her, grateful for this beautiful life spent singing to myself and to you, for as long as you’ll have me. Thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart, down to my cells."

'Virgin' is Lorde's fourth studio album. It follows her 2021 album, 'Solar Power'.

Speaking to Billboard Philippines, Lorde says she came into her power making 'Virgin'.

"In the past, I have really struggled with feeling powerful and feeling fully in my [own] body, so it was really my intention with this one to make something that felt like it could carry the full weight of my inner world, my ambition, and [even] my history.”

She says her new album is her attempt to heal all parts of herself from the teenager who released her hit single, 'Royals', to the 2023 version of herself, "who was struggling with body image and acne issues".

Lorde also reveals what she hopes her fans will get from her new album.

"I want people to be inspired, to really get in touch with how their life feels — not so much how it looks. I want them to let go of fiction around that, and to focus on how it feels."
