Shawn Mendes has opened up about suffering from mental health problems.

The 'Stitches' hitmaker has announced that he had to put a hold on his world tour because of not being in a good mental state.

"This breaks my heart to have to say this, but unfortunately, I'm going to have to postpone the next three weeks of shows through Uncasville, CT, until further notice," he wrote on Instagram.

The 23-year-old says he has been touring for close to a decade and it is difficult to be away from his loved ones.

"I've been touring since I was 15, and to be honest, it's always been difficult to be on the road away from friends and family,"  he wrote.

Although he took a break for a while, he says choosing to go back to touring was premature.

He added that being on tour has put a toll on him and, as a result, he has reached breaking point.

"After a few years off the road, I felt like I was ready to dive back in, but that decision was premature and unfortunately the toll of the road and the pressure has caught up to me and I've hit a breaking point,"  he wrote.
