June Steenkamp launches Reeva Foundation
Updated | By ANA
June Steenkamp on Wednesday launched the Reeva Steenkamp Foundation at St Dominics High School in Port Elizabeth.
She said the foundation which will offer relief to abused women, was launched in honour of her daughter.
Reeva Steenkamp, was fatally shot from behind a door on Valentine’s Day two years ago by her then athlete boyfriend Oscar Pistorius.
On Monday, Pistorius was place under house arrest, after spending nearly a year in prison. As part of his sentence for culpable homicide, Pistorius will spend the next four years under correctional supervision, while residing at his uncle’s Pretoria suburban house.
June Steenkamp said she had “forgiven” Pistorius and would not want to “hurt him” or any other person.
She, however, said she and her husband were suffering the pain of losing their daughter every day.
June Steenkamp, who read a speech her daughter had written before her untimely death, said the Reeva Foundation would empower abused women to make another life away from abuse.
She encouraged children to speak to their parents about any problems they may encounter. - ANA
