Updated | By MornéJK
Police were out in full force in various parts of Pretoria on Monday night after violent protests started in the CBD.
The situation was calm on Tuesday morning with debris scattered all over roads in Mamelodi.
More than 18 buses were torched.
Protests erupted after Thoko Didiza was announced as the Tshwane Mayoral Candidate in the upcoming local government election.
The protests kicked off in the Pretoria CBD when a TMPD car was overturned.
Later on Monday more protests erupted in Atteridgeville with residents saying they will not vote if current Tshwane Mayor, Kgosientso Ramakgopa is not brought back.
The ANC in the region has scheduled a press briefing for Tuesday to outline its view on the appointment of Didiza as the mayoral candidate.
There is a heavy police presence in various townships in the capital.
The ANC's Secretary General, Gwede Mantashe has meanwhile labelled the protests as "pure thuggery."
