Alexandra eviction protest turns violent as Gautrain station targeted
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Residents of Alexandra have burned an electricity transformer at the Marlboro Gautrain station after they took to the streets over Friday's demolitions in their area.

Police spokesperson Kay Makhubele says police used rubber bullets to disperse the crowd.
"Earlier on, community members went to the Gautrain station where they tried to enter and they burned the electric box," said Makhubele.
Protests in Alexandra flared up Saturday morning after scores of houses were demolished by the Red Ants on Friday leaving hundreds homeless.
It is still not clear on who is responsible for the demolitions as the DA, EFF and ANC are all pointing fingers at each other.
The EFF’s Washington Mokonyane however mobilised community members to march to the Gautrain station to protest against the “racist” DA.
