Elections 2016: Results at 12:00
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
The counting process following the Local Government Elections is in its final stretch with 94 percent of all national votes tallied.
The IEC's Stuart Murphy says, despite the small percentage of votes that still need to be counted and verified, they only expect the final results by midnight.
"The last lot are in the metropolitan areas. It's high densities, large numbers. Large volumes of result slips still need to be done. Sometimes result slips get misplaced. They need to be found again, technical problems with the scanning of the result slips, so it's really about the numbers," he said.
The ANC remains in the lead with 54.44 percent of the national votes, followed by the DA with 26.2 percent and the EFF with 7.93 percent.
