Mbete responds to coalition snubs
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
Opposition parties have indicated their willingness to form coalitions where no real majority has achieved, but so far no one is willing to work with the ANC.
ANC Chairperson Baleka Mbeta responded to questions by journalists at the IEC's National Results Operation Centre on these comments by opposition parties.
The EFF's Mbuyiseni Ndlozi says it is a matter of principle.
"The people of South Africa are asking us to take those decisions and we are going to take them in the best interest of change that is biased to the black people, poor people in particular. The ANC is the one that must be humbled," Ndlozi said.
Cope's Dennis Bloem says they can't work with a party that is corrupt.
"We are talking about the ANC that does not respect the constitution of the country, having a president who must face 783 charges," Bloem said.
The FF Plus Pieter Mulder says they are happy with the increased support they received in a few new areas.
"From my personal point of view, I don't think it's good to strengthen the ANC at this time in history," Mulder said.
The IEC is expected to brief media again this afternoon to give more detail on when the final results can be expected.
