America Ferrera isn't perfect

America Ferrera thinks it is "OK" not to be perfect and no longer worries about what people think of her red carpet outfits.

The 'Superstore' actress used to find red carpet events "draining" because so many people would have an opinion on her appearance, but she now thinks other viewpoints don't matter so long as she likes what she is wearing.

She told People magazine: "When I started out, every red carpet or photo shoot felt like a stressful, momentous occasion.

"Trying to be perfect all the time can be draining.

"But I've grown up and realised that who I am as a person doesn't change with the outside world's approval of my appearance.

"If everyone hates my dress but I like it, that's all that matters. I'm finally learning that being not perfect is OK."

And the 31-year-old actress - who poked fun at the 2016 Golden Globes about how she gets mistaken for Gina Rodriguez - finds a lot of "freedom" in deflecting attention away from herself.

She said: "I think there is a lot of freedom in taking the microscope off yourself and putting it on something or someone else."

America has remained close friends with her 'Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants' co-stars Blake Lively, Amber Tablyn and Alexis Bledel but recently admitted she often forgets their friendship began on the set of the 2005 movie.

She said recently: "They're my best friend.

"When I'm out with my 'Sisterhood' girls, I think, 'Why are people staring?' Then it hits me, 'Oh! It's because we are the 'Sisterhood' girls.' "
