The retired sportsman was initially "devastated" when fashion model Romeo told him he doesn't want to follow in his footsteps but is happy for the teenager to pursue his other "passions" instead.

He said: "The other day Romeo turned round to me and said he didn't want to play football any more. Part of me was devastated but part of me was relieved, too.

"He's got other passions and I like that."

And the former soccer ace - who also has children Brooklyn, 13, Cruz, 10, and Harper, four, with wife Victoria - also admitted he prefers watching rugby to the sport that made him famous these days.

He told Radio Times magazine: "I love rugby - I love watching it and I love the whole thing. I have enjoyed going to Twickenham more than I have enjoyed watching football."

He went on to explain he enjoys the atmosphere at soccer games, with "people sitting together with no nastiness."

However, he thinks his own sport has more "power".

He added: "Football is so powerful, because it matters so much to people."
