Kevin Hart says sex tape extortion scandal was a mistake

Kevin Hart says his 2017 sex tape scandal was a mistake. “There was a time when I focused on the idea of the mistake and it happening and being okay with the recovery. Why? Because it’s human.”

Kevin Hart has once again spoken about the 2017 sex tape extortion scandal that almost destroyed his family.

Speaking to Wall Street Journal’s Suzanne Vranica during the Cannes Lions Festival on Tuesday, the comedian said that the scandal was a "mistake".

“There was a time when I doubled down on family. Why? Well, I have a lot of brands that love the idea of family. Let me show family on a global scale.

“There was a time when I focused on marriage and the household. There was a time when I focused on the idea of the mistake and it happening and being okay with the recovery. Why? Because it’s human,” he said.

Kevin cheated with a woman named Montia Sabbag.

The two of them reportedly had sex and it was recorded by his friend Jonathan Todd Jackson.

Later, the woman sued for $60-million (approximately R1-billion). She claimed that Kevin was aware that their encounter in a Las Vegas hotel room was being secretly filmed. Montia told Daily Mail that she flew to Vegas with Kevin on a private plane and had sex with him three times in his luxury suite.

In 2021, Kevin announced that Jonathan “J.T.” Jackson had his extortion charges dismissed. The actor said he was ready to move on.

After the scandal became public, Kevin released an apology to his wife, Eniko Hart.

“I’m at a place in my life where I feel like I have a target on my back and because of that I should make smart decisions. And recently, I didn’t. You know, I’m not perfect. I’m not going to sit up here and say that I am or claim to be in any way shape or form. And I made a bad error in judgment and I put myself in a bad environment where only bad things can happen and they did.”

He added that his actions caused him to hurt the people closest to him.

However, he said that he will not “allow a person to have financial gain off of my mistakes and in this particular situation that was what was attempted”.

“I’d rather fess up to my mistakes," he said.
