According to his brother and co-founder of the group, Sandile Khemese, he collapsed during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

"We are waiting for a report by pathologist to confirm the exact cause of death," Khemese told Jacaranda FM News.

Khemese says that he has very fond memories of his brother and that they founded the Soweto String Quartet many years ago.

"We travelled the world together and we made memories where ever we went," he said.

The Soweto String Quartet emerged during the 80's around the nucleus of the three Khamese brothers, violinists Sandile and Thami and cellist, Reuben.

Brothers, Sandile and Reuben, attended their uncle's music school and later served as violinists in the Soweto Symphony Orchestra.

In 1989 the Soweto String Quartet was officially formed.

Khemese recalled that they used to share clothes during their childhood and that they felt more like twins, than only brothers.

"Reuben lost his wife in a tragic car accident 5 years ago and he never really recovered from that," Khemese said.

Rueben Khemese will be laid to rest during a private funeral next week.
