Minnie Dlamini speaks on #OpenUpTheIndustry

The conversation, which was sparked on social media a few weeks ago, has seen celebs like Bonang Matheba, Lerato Kganyago, Thando Thabethe and others, voicing their thoughts. 

Speaking to an online radio station on Thursday morning, Minnie said: "I mean it's rough... I'm like, this is my livelihood, this is my job and under no circumstance will I say or do anything that would, you know, take food from someone's mouth. So from that perspective, I don't think it's fair."  

She said opportunities do need to be created for the industry to grow. She added that money is also tight. 

"I definitely believe that. The only way that that can happen is if more money gets pumped into the industry for more shows to be produced, for more talent to then be exposed." 

On why we keep seeing the same people on TV,  Minnie explained that producers are under pressure to ensure the shows are a success. 

"And when these productions get given a budget, they also get [told], 'well if you don't reach this target by this time, your show gets cancelled'. So of course you're gonna go for the resources that are going to give you the opportunity to get those numbers." 

She added that it's a business. " I guess that's what people need to understand, that this is not about making dreams come true, and this is not a fairy tale story. It is a business, and although it looks very glitzy and very glamorous, it's a lot of hard work."
