The 'Hello' singer's 2015 offering '25' overtook his former group Oasis' 1997 release 'Be Here Now' to become the fastest-selling album in UK chart history, but the 48-year-old rocker insisted he and his band had to work harder to persuade people to go out and buy their LPs as fans couldn't access downloads or streaming with a simple click of a button.

He said: "She sold all those records, but she put her record in the palm of everyone's hand.

"We got people off their a**es, down to the high street to buy it in person. We didn't knock on their doors and ask if they wanted it. That's the difference."

The 'Ballad of the Mighty I' singer admitted his 16-year-old daughter Anais - who he has with ex-wife Meg Matthews - finds the idea of going out to buy albums "ridiculous" when they can simply download them to their communications devices.

He told the Belfast Telegraph newspaper: "I don't understand youth culture, although I've got a 16-year-old daughter, so I start to see it from her perspective.

"I'll say to her that we used to queue up to buy records - queues round the block in Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester when the new Smiths album came out - and she says it's stupid. Records just arrive on her phone. Teenagers think it's ridiculous, they're too busy on Snapchat to go out and buy an album in person."

Noel - who also has sons Donovan, eight, and Sonny, five, with his wife Sara MacDonald - previously slammed Adele's music as being made for "f***ing grannies".

He said: "If someone wants to know what I think of Adele, I'll f***ing tell them ... I just don't see what all the fuss is about. I don't like her music. I think it's music for f***ing grannies..."
