Phat Joe, real name Majota Khambule, has denied rumours that he was evicted from his luxury apartment in Sea Point, Cape Town.

Over the weekend, the media personality was trending on social media after reports stated that he was now out on the streets following failure to pay his rent.

It was also reported that he last paid his rent in November 2022 and thus his debt had accumulated to over R600,000.

In an interview with Podcast and Chill, the TV and radio presenter said he is not out on the streets and that the landlord has been trying to extort money from him.

“For three years I stayed there [with] no problems. They tried to extort me out of R300,000. I said no," he said during the podcast interview.

Phat Joe said the dispute with his landlord has gotten out of hand, resulting in him experiencing a break in at his home and photos of his daughter shared on social media without his consent.

"A dispute began at that point over a year ago. That dispute evolved into gunmen breaking into my house, all types of court cases, and now they are taking pictures of my daughter and publishing them online. I'm truly in a fight,” he said.

Due to the court hearings, the star says he has agreed on a settlement with the landlord and would only vacate the premises at the end of May.

“What we did was in March, we were beating them in court. They asked us for a settlement. We agreed to the settlement. The settlement was we would vacate the place at the end of May or by June 1. Then both parties, through our lawyers, went to the high court and made it an order of the court. There was no eviction. They said we were kicked out on the streets. That's not true as well,” he added.

Phat Joe also denied that he is broke.
