SAMA nominees to be announced
Updated | By MornéJK
Artists, producers and songwriters are on the edge of their seats as they wait for the nominees for the 23rd annual South African Music Awards (SAMAs) to be announced.
Judges will announce 2017's nominees at a function in Kempton Park this evening after receiving more than 700 entries to the different categories.
SAMA judges announced earlier this month that the amount of entries increased from 470 in 2016 to more than 700 this year.
After a stringent vetting process that involved officials from the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) and record company representatives, the list of nominees will be made public on Thursday evening.
All the entries were handed over to panels of independent experts drawn from radio, TV, newspapers, blogs and the recording industry for the judging process.
The annual event honours the country's finest music talent over two days in key categories, as they battle for the South African industry's highest honour - a statuette at the South African Music Awards.
Nominees also take the stage by storm with a series of epic, never-to-be-repeated performances, as the nation watches SA's finest talent at work.
The SAMAs will be handed out at Sun City in May.
