Thuso Mbedu lands lead role in Hollywood series

Emmy-nominated actress Thuso Mbedu is the latest local star to break into Hollywood.

The South African has been cast as Cora, the main character in the television adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel ‘The Underground Railroad’.

The story tells of three slaves who seek freedom from Southern plantations through an underground railroad.

The 11 part series will be shown on Amazon.

Mbedu's love interest in the series, Caesar, will be played by Aaron Pierre, while Chase W. Dillon will portray Homer.

Mbedu took to Instagram to share the good news.

"My thumb and neurons are failing me right now so I'll just do as most South Africans do when this happens: I GOT THE JOB!!!!"

Congratulations have since poured for the Safta winner.

Mbedu follows the likes of Trevor Noah and Charlize Theron in breaking through the Hollywood scene.
