Masondo died on Sunday afternoon at Garden City Hospital in Johannesburg, eNCA reported.
In June he was taken to hospital for fatigue, after collapsing during a live performance in Uitenhage.
He was 67-year-old at the time of his death.
Masondo has been hailed as the pioneer of Mbhaqanga music and he had recorded over 35 albums with Soul Brothers.
