Matric 2016: Gauteng boasts the most bachelor passes

Gauteng's top performing matrics have been honoured at the Chief Albert Luthuli Primary School.

The province delivered the third best matric results in the country following the 2016 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations.


The province received a pass rate of 85.1 percent, an improvement from 84.2 percent in 2015.


Gauteng also boasts the most bachelor passes.

Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi says the province's Basic Education system is on the right path - irrespective of race, colour or class.


"This exam was indeed a tough exam and we want to thank all our students for their dedication and their commitment, as well as the educators who contributed to this particular pass rate. Out of almost 103 000 learners that wrote matric in Gauteng, we are proud that 88 381of them have matric certificates that say they have passed," says Lesufi.


Gauteng's top performing matriculant is Ariel Mazabow who obtained 11 distinctions.


"My message to those going into matric this year is that it is essential that you need to start working from day one," says Mazabow.
