Tears and cheers from matric parents

Parents of learners who received their matric results last night say they are proud of their children but also nervous and sad as they head off to university.

The Independent Examinations Board released its results at midnight last night, boasting a 98.67% pass rate.
"We are happy that the pass rate has slightly increased from 98.30% with all IEB candidates achieving a pass rate that is good enough for tertiary education," CEO of the IEB, Anne Oberholzer says.
Some 11022 full-time and 703 part-time candidates from 237 examination venues across Southern Africa wrote the IEB National Senior Certificate examinations in October and November 2016.
Results for public schools will be released on the 4th of January.
Quality assurer, Umalusi, that has approved the release of results for 2016.
The principal of St David's Marist Inanda says he is immensely proud of their 100% pass rate as well as the accomplishments by individual learners.
