Community bays for blood of woman linked to Soweto child killings

Angry community members were on Friday baying for the blood of a Soweto grandmother who is accused of killing her grandson Tshiamo Rabanye and his little friend Nqobizitha Zulu.

The two boys were found at different locations in Soweto, hours after they had been reported missing.

Their bodies had been mutilated.

Nqobile Ndlovu and her partner, Mthunzi Zulu, abandoned their bid for bail in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

The couple faces charges including kidnapping, murder, defeating the ends of justice, and perjury after they were linked to the gruesome killings.

Community members, who hurled insults at the duo as they returned to the cells, vowed to take the law into their own hands should the suspects ever apply for and be released on bail.

Nqobizitha Zulu’s aunt Gcina Tshabalala told reporters that she believes the community was justified in their reaction as she too battled with the urge to assault the accused.

“It’s difficult to see her here when our children won’t come back while she’s still alive. I just felt like I could go to her and start beating her up and make her feel the pain that the children felt.

“How was she feeling when they were crying?”

Community members said they were shocked when Ndlovu was arrested, adding that she had helped them search for the boys.

She added that Zulu’s mother was battling to come to terms with her son’s death and that the family’s heartbroken.

Tshabalala said when the bodies were found, Ndlovu was screaming but they now believe that her reaction at the time was all a charade.

“How can she kill her children so brutally? On the day they were found, it was as though she knew nothing. She was pretending.

“Even when she was crying, she was screaming. That shows that she was pretending and distracting us, so no one sees that she’s the one.”

Meanwhile, the National Prosecuting Authority said it hopes to have received the DNA test results and the post-mortem report by the time returns to court in July.
