Ramaphosa announces reconfigured cabinet
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
All eyes will be on President Cyril Ramaphosa on Monday evening when he announces changes to his cabinet.
The announcement comes after a week of consultations, engagements and speculations on who will be included or excluded.
The president will make changes to align the leadership of the country with those elected at the ANC’s national conference held in December.
During his State of the Nation Address, Ramaphosa emphasised that the restructuring of government will give him an opportunity "to determine the positioning of various areas of responsibilities and how best the various ministries and departments can best serve the national objectives".
He also announced his decision to appoint the Minister of Electricity in the Presidency with the aim of resolving the energy crisis.
There are growing speculations that Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, who heads up the infrastructure office in the presidency could be given the electricity ministry portfolio.
Meanwhile, Business Unity South Africa's Cas Coovadia says the business sector needs a cabinet that is able to drive urgent change.
"We must ensure that the new cabinet inspires confidence from the public as well as business so investor sentiment improves dramatically.”
