Gauteng police arrested thirteen suspects found in possession of eighteen loaded firearms in Kagiso, west of Johannesburg, on Wednesday.
The arrests followed a shootout, allegedly between employees from two security companies.
The security companies are believed to be affiliated with two different taxi associations.
The suspects are facing charges of attempted murder and discharging of a firearm in a municipal area.
Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said when the police arrived at the scene, the occupants of the armoured vehicle fled on foot.
“Thirteen suspects were cornered and arrested while 13 riffles, four pistols including scores of ammunition and magazines were seized from the scene, and one firearm was found hidden at a nearby filling station.
“Two people from one of the groups were injured during the shooting out and were taken to hospital. All seized firearms will be subjected to further investigations and ballistic testing to ascertain if they were not used in the commission of other serious and violent crimes.”
The suspects are set to appear in court soon.
