13m litres of booze seized, 15 000 nabbed in Limpopo
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News, Bisho Baloyi
Around 13 million litres of alcohol has been confiscated in Limpopo since the start of the nationwide lockdown in March.
Government has outlawed the selling and transportation of alcohol as part of a raft of measures to combat the spread of coronavirus.
Spokesperson for the community safety department Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala says 15 000 people have been arrested on various charges related to the contravention of the Disaster Management Act.
Moremi-Taueatsoala says the department is concerned over the spike in the brewing of traditional alcohol in the townships and villages.
"It makes it difficult for police to do their jobs, but so far with community intelligence, we have been able to get tip-offs and confiscate home-brewed beer.”
