Tshwane Mayor Randal William has bestowed 17 firefighters with medals for their bravery during the Bank of Lisbon building fire in Johannesburg.
In September 2018, fire gutted the building which housed the Gauteng Department of Health.
The fire claimed the lives of three firefighters.
William said firefighting is a unique act of bravery that deserves recognition.
"We would like to say thank you to all for being true professionals and flying the Tshwane flag high.
"You have earned these bravery medals, may these medals motivate you to rise against all odds and serve your communities with dedication and selflessness.”
The medal ceremony was held at the Rietondale sport grounds in Pretoria on Thursday morning.
