The police in Thohoyandou have opened cases of house robbery
and six counts of rape after a group of unknown suspects robbed students
staying off campus and gang-raped one victim.
Limpopo police spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo, says the
suspects attacked six students of the University of Venda in Thohoyandou on
Saturday night, while they were in their different rented rooms.
The armed gang broke down the doors to the rooms.
"After gaining entry into the rooms, the suspects then robbed the victims of their valuables including cell phones and money," says Mojapelo.
He adds after robbing the students, the suspects dragged 19-year-old student to the nearby bushes and raped her.
Mojapelo says the men were carrying firearms.
"The poor victim was left for dead and the police were then informed and reacted swiftly, but by the time they arrived, the suspects had already fled from the scene."
