At least 20 000 runners are expected to participate in one of the country’s biggest annual running races, the Soweto Marathon.
The marathon will take place on Sunday.
Chairman of the Soweto Marathon Trust, Sello Khunou has urged runners to be at the FNB stadium at the crack of dawn.
He says that runners should be at the stadium by 4 am.
“The first race will be starting at half 5:30 which is 42.2 km, so you have to make sure that you have to come early. Thirty minutes later it will be 21 km and thirty minutes later it will be 10 km,” he says.

“The entries will be closed today, which is Saturday, and runners please make their way through. Those who are running the 42 km must make their way to the stadium. But those who are doing 21km and 10km can register online.”
Johannesburg Metro Police spokesperson Xolani Fihla has urged motorists to be vigilant in and around the vicinity.
He says that people must also take note of road closures in and around the FNB stadium.
