2017 could be a good year for the mining industry: Manuel

Former Finance Minister Trevor Manuel is in Cape Town ahead of the opening of Parliament tomorrow evening.

He addressed the launch of a mining empowerment fund this morning.
Manuel says South Africa's entire history has been shaped by mining.
"We may wish that we did not have that history, but we do," says Manuel.

The former minister says we had our entire history socially, economically and culturally shaped by mining.
"Part of the discussions we must have is how we can bring this industry into the present and create a better basis for the future, ensuring that is always retains compliance with the letter and spirit of our constitution," says Manuel.
