3 guards injured in Benoni heist

Three security guards have been injured in a cash-in-transit heist in Benoni.

The guards were rushed to hospital after a group of armed suspects attacked the vehicle they were travelling in on Friday morning.

Gauteng police spokesperson Brenda Muridili says the cash van was attacked on Putfontein Road by an unknown number of suspects driving in three vehicles.
The suspects managed to flee with an undisclosed amount of cash.
“It is alleged that explosives were used to bomb the cash vehicle and suspects made off with undisclosed amount of cash in three vehicles.
“Security officers were taken to hospital for medical attention. Two vehicles were burned on the scene.”
