A 35-year-old man was charged with kidnapping after almost three dozens of Ethiopian nationals were rescued in Rabie Ridge, near Midrand on Thursday.
This after the Hawks teamed up with the Department of Home Affairs to rein in human trafficking syndicates in the province.
Gauteng Hawks spokesperson Ndivhuwo Mulamu says law enforcement followed up on intelligence about suspicious activity at a house in Rabie Ridge when they pounced on the suspect.
“A thorough search was conducted, police found and rescued thirty two men who were locked-up in one room.
“The suspect was immediately arrested and charged with kidnapping.”
The man is expected to appear in the Alexandra Magistrates court on Monday.
“The victims were taken to a place of safety for procedural medical observation and treatment,” Mulamu adds.
