400 suspects arrested during #OkaeMolao anti-crime blitz

More than 400 suspects were arrested during an Okae Molao anti-crime operation in various parts of Johannesburg.
Gauteng Premier David Makhura was joined by the MEC for Community Safety Faith Mazibuko at roadblocks in Johannesburg.

Makhura’s spokesperson Vuyo Mhaga says of the 447 people who were arrested, one was arrested for murder and rape.
"One house robbery four robberies with firearms and actually as we then carried on there were also some taxi guys that were arrested - two taxi guys - in the process possibly involved with taxi violence that the premier was speaking on during the taxi summit.
"The operations are still ongoing. There were liquor laces that were closed, so it was quite a successful morning."

Mhaga says Woodmead, Randburg taxi rank and Bryanston Main Road are some of the major crime hot-spots.
"The major hotspots will be the areas that we're speaking on. Normally it is an intelligence-driven operation that's why on a Wednesday night we're going to identify different places that must then be looked at. We're looking for suspects for rape, suspects for murder and police are able to apprehend those particular suspects.”
