Mawela was speaking at the Bara Taxi Rank in Soweto on Thursday, where he joined officers in enforcing lockdown regulations.
"These are isolated and we don't want to confirm which police stations the officers are from because people will stigmatise the rest of the station and refuse to go there. For now, we just confirm that there are five and are currently in quarantine and gradually recuperating," he said.
Gauteng remains the epicenter of the virus with 1224 cases confirmed on Wednesday.
