The breakthrough comes three weeks after the first suspect, 29-year-old Siyabonga Macu, was arrested.

Five more people have been nabbed in the murder of a farming couple, Glen and Vida Rafferty.

This brings the tally of suspects to 6.

The Raffertys, both in their 60s, were ambushed, robbed and killed on their farm at the end of August.

Provincial police spokesperson Jay Naicker says the latest arrests were made on Thursday night.

“Last night detectives from the Provincial Organised Crime Unit arrested five suspects who were detained for questioning in connection with the murder of the Rafferty’s in Normandien on 30 August.

“The suspects are in custody pending further investigation,” Naicker adds.

A vehicle suspected to have been used during the crime was also seized as part of the ongoing probe.

The arrests come amid rising tensions in the adjacent North West over a spike in farm murders.
