THE #FEESMUSTFALL STUDENT PROTESTS HAVE ONLY JUST BEGUN

The protests, over fee increments at Wits, have now spread to Rhodes and UCT with more protests promised at the Universities of Pretoria and Stellenbosch this week. Students are vowing to close campuses around the country until their funding-grievances are heard.

THE WITS AGREEMENT LOOKS FRAGILE

The negotiated settlement reached at Wits over the weekend looked a bit fragile this afternoon, after students vowed to again close the campus. This after the university council refused to meet with students to discuss the agreement, citing security concerns. Classes have again been suspended on Tuesday.

BLADE NZIMANDE HAS (FINALLY) SPRUNG INTO ACTION

The Higher Education minister addressed the media on the various student protests. Nzimande expressed concern over the violent nature of some of the protests, but denied claims that it's now a full-blown crisis. Nzimande will be meeting with university stakeholders tomorrow to discuss fee increases.

SOUTH AFRICANS DO STILL HAVE THE CAPACITY TO BE SHOCKED BY VIOLENT CRIME

There is not a lot that leaves South Africans reeling, but the horror experienced by the two couples at Rhodes Park in Kensington over the weekend has left many people speechless. A gang of 12 attackers raped one of the women, and then tied up the two men and threw them into the river where they drowned.

HE NEEDED THE LOO, THAT'S ALL

World rugby boss Brett Gosper reckons South African referee Craig Joubert needed the loo, and that is why he left the Twickenham pitch in such a hurry yesterday. Joubert's controversial last-minute penalty decision handed Australia a 35-34 victory over Scotland and a place in the World Cup semi-finals. Yes, of course, he just needed the loo. He wasn't at all trying to avoid thousands of pissed, and pissed-off, Scotsmen.
