The deadline for any objections was Tuesday.

Last week, the different political parties revealed their lists of nominated candidates.

The IEC's Chief Electoral Officer, Sy Mamabolo, says the political parties that received objections, will now be afforded the opportunity to respond to the complaints.

The IEC would not divulge on the merits or substance of the objections.

"Candidate objections are part of the evolving electoral process which is governed by the elections timetable and the cut-off date for the objections was on the second of April.

"Part of the process is obviously to afford a party whose candidates have been objected to, an opportunity for them to respond. I think this is part of our principals of natural justice," Mamabolo said.

The commission has until the 8th of April to adjudicate and make a final decision on the 53 objections.

Meanwhile, the African National Congress (ANC) submitted its candidates list to the party's integrity commission.

The ruling party has come under fire for its national list, which includes Mosebenzi Zwane, Bathabile Dlamini, Malusi Gigaba and Nomvula Mokonyane.

The members have all been implicated in state capture and for undermining the constitution.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) list has also been criticised, following an accusation of a racist comment by MP Dianne Kohler Barnard whose name appears on teh DA candidate list.

Kohler Barnard is alleged to have said that black youths were targetting white motorists in a rock-throwing incident in KZN.
