The country’s Covid-19 positivity rate has dropped to 2.3% from the 2.7% reported in previous days.

On Friday, the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) reported an increase of 733 infections in the last 24-hour reporting period.
“The majority of new cases today are from Western Cape (22%), followed by KwaZulu-Natal accounting for 20%,” said the NICD in a statement.
“Gauteng accounted for 15%; Eastern Cape and Free State each accounted for 11% respectively; North West accounted for 7%; Mpumalanga and Northern Cape each accounted for 5% respectively; and Limpopo accounted for 4% of today’s new cases.”
This brings the cumulative cases to 2 915 560.
The number of fatalities rose to 88 506 after 56 new deaths were reported.
More than 20 million vaccine doses have been administered since February.
The Department of Health also announced this week it would open the vaccination drive to children between 12 years and 17 later this month.
