7de Laan creator Danie Odendaal passes away

The creator of the much-loved and popular Afrikaans Soapie 7de Laan has died.
Danie Odendaal passed away at his Langebaan home in the Western Cape on Wednesday after a short illness.
He was 77 years old.
Odendaal was a respected producer, director and writer who dedicated 45 years of his life to the South African film and television industry.
He was also a celebrated academic with both local and international academic achievements at its highest level.
His family described him as someone who lived a life full of creativity and quietly shaped the world around him through story telling.
Odendaal's work in production also yielded numerous awards and recognition at a national level.
“Danie lived a life full of creativity and warmth, quietly shaping the world around him through his story telling,” said family spokesperson Daniel Kriel.
"Known for his humour and wit, he had a way of speaking his mind that inspired those fortunate enough to know him", he said.
"His contributions to television and theatre in South Africa paved the way for countless others, and his legacy shines brightly through 7de Laan, a beloved soap opera that captured the hearts of so many,” he added.
"It stands as a lighthouse to his artistic spirit and people-first approach, he leaves behind his life partner and wife Annie and the entire 7de Laan family, cast, crew fans and viewers who loved and admired him", said Kriel.
