National police spokesperson Vish Naidoo says the arrests relate to tenders awarded for the marking of vehicles.

“During a pre-dawn operation this morning, members of the special task team arrested eight currently serving members as well as a former lieutenant general for corruption and money laundering cases.

“These nine SAPS members were arrested in their respective premises in Pretoria, Centurion and Durban.”

“The civilians were arrested at the respective residential premises also in Pretoria, Centurion and surrounding areas.”

Naidoo says more arrests could follow.

“We cannot rule out the possibility at this stage for more arrests to be effected. There is indeed one suspect that is outstanding, a lieutenant colonel who is yet to be arrested. We expect to make this arrest by the close of business day today.”

All suspects will appear at various courts across the country within 48 hours.
