A total of 831 people have been arrested during Fees Must Fall protests since February, police confirm.

Acting national police commissioner Khomotso Phahlane says the arrests have resulted in 411 cases being opened, 129 of which are before the courts.
Phahlane believes the fees movement has been hijacked by criminals.
He says police have noted certain trends over the last few weeks.

"Many incidents are happening outside of the premises of higher learning. The trend is to try and distract the police, move away from the institutions and go on the rampage outside like in Braamfontein."
Protests are also happening more frequently at night, Phahlane says.
He says police are being provoked.
