AA predicts another fuel price hike
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
The Automobile Association (AA) says South Africans will have to fork out even more money at petrol pumps in August.

The association says the current data suggests a price rise of 19 cents a litre for petrol, 13 cents for diesel, and 22 cents for illuminating paraffin.
In July petrol hit R16 a litre for the first time.
According to spokesperson, Layton Beard, the increase is mostly down to a weaker rand.
“These increases are of great concern to Automobile Association, not only because of the impact of all South Africans, but particularly on poorest of the poor who rely on paraffin for heating, cooking and lighting.”

Beard says the way the price will come down will be if the government reduce fuel levies.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has instructed ministers in the economic cluster to come up with measures to soften the blow of high fuel prices.
In July, government confirmed that it won’t cut or freeze the fuel levy to ease the pressure on cash-strapped consumers.

“We believe now is a good opportunity for government to revisit the issue of the fuel levies with a view to reduce significantly especially as this is a cost it has control over,” says Beard.
