The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) is investigating a police officer for allegedly sexually assaulting two Grade 3 learners.
The police has confirmed an investigator accused of sexually assaulting two primary school learners at a Soweto school is still on duty pending the outcome of an investigation.
The investigator, belonging to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit, was preparing the learners to testify against a school patroller accused of sexually violating more than 80 learners when the incident allegedly occurred.
The case at AB Xuma Primary was immediately reported to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid), says police spokesperson Mathapelo Peters.
"The member is on duty pending conclusion of the IPID investigation," says Peters.
She says Ipid will make recommendations to the police on the way forward after its investigation has concluded.
