Abandon cadre deployment at Transnet, ActionSA & Outa tell Gordhan

ActionSA has urged Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan to abandon the ANC's policy of cadre deployment when appointing new executives at embattled state-owned logistics company Transnet.

The call comes amid a spate of resignations at the state-owned entity.
On Thursday, the resignation of Transnet Freight Rail CEO, Sizakele Mzimela, was confirmed.
Mzimela will leave the state-owned company at the end of October.
Her resignation comes days after CEO Portia Derby and CFO Nonkululeko Dlamini also exited the company.
ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba said the recent resignations highlight the failure of ANC cadre deployment.
"It is now clear that the disastrous leadership at Transnet is, in large part, to blame for the country missing the commodity boom, which contributes to South Africa's current budgetary constraints and inability to create quality jobs.
"Cadre deployment should be entirely abandoned when hiring new executives at Transnet, and instead, only the most skilled and qualified people should be appointed.”
The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse's CEO Wayne Duvenage echoed Mashaba’s statement, saying Transnet needs to extricate itself from “the cadre deployment mentality”.
"When it comes to bug turnaround strategies in these massive organisations, they need to find the right people. Even if they go internationally to find the right people.
“These right people should also not be subjected to any political meddling. I do not think that this government has the ability to let go and allow people to come and do the changes," said Duvenage.
