Abrahams says ANC needs to do more for small businesses
Updated | By Makhosazane Twala
Minister of Small Business Development, Stella Ndabeni Abrahams says the ANC’s July policy conference discussed how small and medium enterprises can play a leading role in driving economic growth.
Ndadeni Abrahams was addressing a Progressive Business Forum breakfast on the sidelines of the ANC national at Nasrec on Monday.
Ndadeni Abrahams acknowledged that the ANC policies downplay the role of small businesses in South Africa.
“I think the role of small businesses is really underplayed in our policy as the ANC, and consequently, in the government policy and budget allocation.
“As a small business portfolio, we are looking forward to this ANC 55th conference so that we can jump to this and correct it as we share with businesspeople of our country,” she said.
“We are growing too slowly, and unemployment is too high and large corporates will not provide the jobs we need as a country South Africa remains as one of the most unequal countries globally.”
